Travel west to a landscape and culture that is very different from the east of the island. The snow capped mountains, the wild and rugged landscape and greenery will overwhelm you with their beauty.
Nestled in a valley among mountains and small hills Lake Kourna is the biggest (3.5 km2) fresh water lake on Crete. It is situated in a magnificent location, just 4km away from Georgioupolis Chania. The relaxing and beautiful landscape is ideal for nature lovers.
Further west to Chania once the capital of Crete and called little Venice of Crete still holds a wealth of Italian architecture. This Venetian city is a hive of activity with its vibrant cross shaped indoor market with its array of local produce ideal for those unusual presents and souvenirs. You will have some free time for a coffe or just sit and enjoy the picturesque harbor.
Finally, a visit to Rethymnon with its preserved buildings surrounding the harbour will allow you to seek out those antiques in the narrow streets of the old town. Gaze up at the Turkish minarets, amble along the Venetian port to the fortress which dominates the town and cast your eyes along the golden sandy beach stretching into the distance.
