Santorni is the most southern island of the Cycladic group in the Aegean Sea, and is located 63 nautical miles of Crete. The capital of the island is Thira. The isle is the one of the most interesting ones from a historic and archaeological point of view. According to the researchers the human presence on the island seems to have existed since the Neolithic Period. Around 3.200 BC Santorini was inhabited by the Cretans who had a great impact on the island’s life. Santorini was an important and wealthy port. The Minoan influence is obvious especially at the excavations on Akrotiri, where a whole village is found, with houses decorated similar to those found in the Minoan palace in Crete. But in 3500 years ago happened something that completely changed the story of the ancient world – the explosion of the volcano which was in the center of the island.
Nowadays Santorini and Fira offer beautiful landscapes. Indigo seas, white washed villages, blue-domed churches, charcoal grey, brown cliff edges and green – this amazing combination of colours makes Santorini a unique visual experience.
Trip to Santorini is the dream of a lifetime for many people.
